Wow, reading last years entry saying 2015 was the best year ever for me, I can honestly say this year topped last! 2016 BROUGHT IT. Despite the evil oompa loompa being elected and the loss of Bowie, it was so fucking amazing. I had my Poppa go this year but he was ready and it was so lovely to celebrate his life with all my family. |
I would probably say that this year was the best year ever! Being in your 30s is awesome :)
THE TRIPS....We really went all out this year. I haven't traveled more in a year ever.
NOLA-Absolutley everything I hoped for and more. To share a sleeper car on a train across the country is so romantic. And New Orleans was fucking orgasmic. The food, the tours, the history, the food, the architecture, the food and the food!
COPENHAGEN AND STOCKHOLM- Its amazing when you find a travel bargain that takes you somewhere you had no plans to go to! Round trip $240 was too hard to pass up. I was expecting these cities to be similar but they were total opposite. Copenhagen was laid back, quiet, totally walkable, and has some cool sites like the hippie commune and the worlds oldest amusement park. Stockholm was hustle and bustle, great food, take public transport everywhere, and was able to go to a cool meeting out there. Overall a really great time.
COOK ISLANDS-RAROTONGA AND AUITUTAKI-Fucking beautiful. Clearest waters I have ever seen. Snorkeled my ass off, and learned how to have fun without doing anything. It was such a different pace then what I am used to. Read a bunch of books, drove around on the scooter, slept in a hut on the beach and made new friends. What an experience! Cant forget getting stranded on my paddle board and getting rescued from a big tourist boat hahahah.
NEW YORK CITY in July-Nothing like booking and planning a trip 12 hours before you get on the plane. What started out as a impulse buy to get Radiohead tickets to Madison Square Garden to resell, then finding out I can't resell them so WTF why not just go. Luckily was able to get a hotwire flight the next day that literally put me there just in time for the show. I wouldn't regret a thing. Those MSG shows were just to die for and the weekend with the boys was unforgettable.
BANFF and VANCOUVER CANADA-Just when I thought it don't get prettier than Cook Islands, we go to this magical place called Banff where the air is immaculate, the mountains look like matterhorn everywhere, the trees are green and full of life, and the lakes are so fucking beautiful it legit looks fake. This was by far the most beautiful place I have ever been to and I will return because I didn't get to do it all. Vancouver was pretty fun too. Canadians rule. I met some really wonderful people and went to some meetings out there. Great food and great times.
LONDON-Did I mention Im an impulsive traveler this year? When Bjork tix popped up on my phone while bored at Tigerheat I just decided to make it work. Being London SOBER for the first time honestly felt like my very first time there. We saw so much, had a glorious weekend in the Cotswolds, I fucking DROVE in the UK (never doing that again) and well don't get me started on the Bjork show. I really love it there. Their public transport is on point, there is so much to see and do, and its just like a place I could see myself living if I was a rich bitch.
TOKYO-Oh boy, I did not know what I was in for. Overall, this was THE trip of my lifetime. Everything and I mean everything about this place is so unique, so exciting, so out of this world, it just takes the cookie. I mean if there is a place I would tell anyone to go before they die, THIS IS IT. They are so far ahead of us all. The fashion, the food, the transport, the malls, the people, just everything. My mind was seriously fucked for a few weeks after I got back. Disney for two days there was so much fun too. Tokyo FORVER has my heart.
NEW YORK PART 2-Oh boy this was truly the best Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary trip a boy could ask for. From Mariah to Broadway to Drag Race to ice skating and bike riding in central park. The weekend in the cold with the boys and the home cooked meals. The christmas trees and decorations everywhere. It was so fun to stay in Manhattan again after staying in Brooklyn the past 4 times. The best way to end the year of amazing travels for sure.
PALM SPRINGS x 3- Fun waterpark family getaways!
LAS VEGAS X4 - Beautiful sister wedding, Gwen Stefani, and work work work next week!
OAKLAND/SF X5- Had some amazing Club 90s up there. Too bad the venue fucked us over :( hope we find a new one. But got to travel and make money at the same time. Lucky!
Bjork at Royal Albert Hall-Bjork with just her and 16 piece orchestra singing Ive Seen It All from Dance in the Dark in the fanciest and most historic venue in London or maybe the world? YEAH. Lets just say it was out of body and worth re arranging my whole life for.
Radiohead at MSG x2 and the Shrinex2
The last few times my 2nd fav band has come around Ive been pretty fucked up, so I made sure to make up for it this time around. All 4 of these shows were equally amazing. They are so great for changing up their setlists every night. Worth every penny. They sounded beautiful. I would say setlist wise MSG night one wins by a smidgen. Seat wise, night one at the Shrine being in row 2 wins by a landslide. Experience wise, tie for night 2 MSG screaming Creep along with 20,000 while holding Sarah Kapoor was one for the books and night 2 of Shrine showing up with no tickets, making a sign with no luck, being caught trying to sneak in, and eventually convincing someone to sell me his ticket almost half way into the show only to run up as close as I could and meeting an amazing older gentleman who let me stand with him was SO FUN.
The Strokes at the Wiltern
ERMMMAHGAWWD I fucking love these boys. This show was STELLAR. Setlist was perfect. Nonstop energy and such a great venue to see one of my all time favorite bands! Worth standing in line for 7 hours for (but probably the last time I do that)
Gwen Stefani and Eve at T Mobile in Vegas and Irvine Meadows final show
I enjoyed Gwens album but to hear it live was even better. And I just lost it when she did her songs with Eve. Both shows were special because we were soon close in Vegas but I was kind of taking lots of pics. Irvine I just enjoyed the moment and danced my ass off with Vanessa in my banana costume as she played the very last show at that shitty venue.
Dolly Parton at the Hollywood Bowl
Wow was not expecting to ball like a little baby. What really sets Dolly from the rest is her storytelling. I could listen to her talk for days. It was such a fun experience with the people I love so much.
the Bad Boy Reunion at the Forum
Talk about the ultimate throwback from the past! I am SO glad I went to this show, even if it was a solo outing. I knew it would be a special night because it was the last stop. Wasn't expecting him to bring out every fucking hip hop artist I grew up listening to and loving though. Puff Daddy, Made, Lil Kim, 112, The Lox, Mary J Blige, DMX, Total, Nas, and freakin DR. DRE and SNOOP DOGG to bring east coast and west coast together! WOOOOW
Mariah Carey at the Beacon
This divvvva is hilarious and still belted it out like no other. Got upgraded to some dope seats and enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit. She went ALL OUT with a gospel choir, two dance troupes, decorations overload and even Santa. Great great show
KROQ Weenie Roast at Irvine Meadows
I don't know if Ive danced that much ever at a show. Thanks to my Sister, we had a blast. The lineup was on point and I got to snag a pic with Shirley!
Britney Spears in Vegas
Cant believe we got to be so close to Britney bitch! I enjoyed it for what it was. I LOVE her music and she sang all my favorites (or actually lip synced to them but its cool)
Garbage at the Hollywood Forever cemetery
Never disappoints! What would the world be without Shirley Manson. So fun to experience with bunch of sober pals at the amazing venue.
Coldplay at the Rose Bowl
What a special show seeing my boys who I saw at the Wiltern in 2002 all the way to selling out 2 nights at the Rose Bowl. The light up wristbands, fireworks, and energy of the audience were such a fun bonus and it was amazing seeing them sing Don't Panic!
The Cure at the Hollywood Bowl
This band has still got it. Such a great time with Jennie and seeing such an iconic act in great seats playing for almost 3 hours.
Club 90s is my baby and I hope it doesn't go anywhere. We had some unbelievable events this year. I got to DJ for 1500 people in one room, travel to Oakland to sell out parties, move around and try new ideas and themes (Bjork, Michael and Janet, Nirvana, ect) I love love love my job and wouldn't trade it for the world
My internship at Judge Mathis productions from January to September was epic. I had the COOLEST boss ever and to be able to get that kind of experience and get paid while doing it is really hard to find. I got super lucky and Im forever grateful.
On step 11 now, did some great work this year, was secretary at my favorite meeting, spoke on my first panel, created life long memories with sober friends.
Really stepped up working out this year. It was the thing that was missing in my life. I found that classes are really the only thing that will really give a me a goof workout. Ive been working out almost every day this week and feel sooooo great.
SCHOOL- Spring semester was light but fun and took fall off to travel. Im looking forward to next sememested and (hopefully) finishing up by next year this time or spring 2017!
S0 YES, I REALLY don't think anything could top this year, and Im ok with that. If I died tonight I would say this year alone was worth it all.
I am SO grateful. For my Andy and 13 years of love, for my higher power, my program, my job, my sponsor, my babies, my family, my friends and just life. THANK YOU GOD
